Marlins squads littered with Mackay players

FIVE Mackay players have been selected to represent the North Queensland Marlins Men's team after starring in the Foley Shield at the weekend.

Jesse Dee, Tyler Gardiner, Schae Mawer, Ivan Petelo and Harold Snell were yesterday named in coach Ian Schifilliti's 19-man roster for upcoming representative encounters with QRL Central region and two southeast Queensland teams at Southport on June 1 and 2.

The male Marlins representative side was selected after the very successful Foley Shield carnival held in Townsville on May 4 and 5.

Mackay won both their games; first a 20-16 defeat of Townsville, followed by a 26-22 thriller over Cairns courtesy of a try after the siren.

It was Mackay's seventh winning Foley Shield campaign and first since 2011.

Despite proving to be the best of the three teams in Townsville, Mackay's five Marlins representatives was less than both of their defeated rivals. Cairns had six players named, while hosts Townsville topped the count with seven players in the NQ side.
