Marketo off the market, Dragon until 2016
COAST junior and versatile St George Illawarra Dragons backrower Jake Marketo will remain in the Red V for another season.
The 26-year-old who can play second-row and lock debuted for the Dragons in round 11, 2010, against the Raiders.
Since then Marketo has gone on to notch up 21 first-grade games for the club.
The former Dragons NYC captain in 2009 played two seasons with Redcliffe Dolphins in the Intrust Super Cup before returning to the Dragons prior to start of the 2015 season.
Having battled his way back into an NRL club, Marketo said it had been a simple decision for him to renew his contract keeping him at the Dragons until at least the end of 2016.
"It was an easy decision for me to make in regards to remaining her as this club means a lot to me," Marketo said.
"I am focused now on repaying the faith shown in me by head coach Paul McGregor and continuing to play my role within the team."
A no-nonsense footballer, Marketo had earned plenty of respect at the club showing the grit and determination to fight for a second chance at the highest level.
"Jake loves the club and has been really focused and committed since being given a second chance and he has been rewarded with an additional year for his efforts to date," Dragons' director of recruitment and retention Peter Mulholland said.
"Jake provides a lot of positive energy at training and in games and has great utility value for our squad with his ability to cover a number of positions.
"Everyone at the club is happy that we have been able to come to an arrangement."
