Runaway car narrowly misses house

TOOWOOBMA father Mark Brown was counting his lucky stars after a runaway four-wheel-drive changed direction metres before it would have smashed into his house.

The white Toyota Prado was initially reported as stolen from a Bridge St house at 6pm on Saturday.

A short time later it was seen rolling down Bridge St into Jubilee Park with no one at the wheel.

Police sent a dog squad to the location but failed to locate anyone near the vehicle.

Sergeant Peter Hudson from Toowoomba police yesterday dismissed the initial claim that the vehicle was stolen.

Mr Brown, who was in his driveway with his son and daughter at the time, said the situation could have been much worse had the vehicle not veered away from his house.
