Many to challenge club champ

THE ladies took to the Coffs Harbour course yesterday with members chasing an elusive club championship.

The winner will be decided after three rounds of golf played over the course of a week and there's a few players at the club in the running for the Division 1 crown.

Gloria Hickey is a permanent fixture on the leaderboard for this event while Romana Murphy is expected to put up a strong challenge.

Last year's winner Hayley Wilson was again hitting the ball cleanly during yesterday's opening round and isn't letting pregnancy stop her from trying to claim back-to-back titles.

Club pro Matt Allan recognises that this trio is favoured to win but quickly added that he wouldn't be surprised to see a dark horse burst from the field this year.

"Gayle Jones and Christine Gardiner could win it this year while Lynda Butler has been playing well," Allan said.

"Club captain Dinah Nutchey-Robinson is also a strong chance of winning each year."
