Manslaughter accused in court

FIVE witnesses will be called in the case against the man accused of the manslaughter of Ulmarra local Kyle Watkins.

Coffs Harbour resident Tyson Egan, 24, appeared in Coffs Harbour Local Court today, and will reappear for a committal hearing in October.

Egan is accused of the unlawful killing of Mr Watkins, 26, in a one-punch assault after a night out in Coffs Harbour in October last year.

Police say Mr Watkins and Egan were among friends celebrating a birthday on October 3.

Egan allegedly punched Mr Watkins during an altercation in West High St that night, causing Mr Watkins to fall on the road, hitting his head and losing consciousness.

Mr Watkins was transferred to Newcastle's John Hunter Hospital where his life support was turned off on October 7.

Police allege after the incident, Egan told them he witnessed a third unknown man hit Mr Watkins, prior to his death.

It's alleged the court previously heard that Egan colluded with witnesses to support his statement.

Magistrate Jeff Walker adjourned Egan's matters to October 21.
