Manly beat the Broncos

SUNDAY August 7 was the final day of competition play in the Gympie Junior Rugby League 2011 season.

In the under-11/12 grand final the Manly lads beat the Broncos 16-14.

It was a nail-biting finish with the Broncos going down to Manly in the final seconds.

The under 11/12 sides were coached by school-based trainees from the Gympie Junior Rugby League competition.

Jamie Dawes from Gympie State High School was the coach of Manly while Jericho Jackson from Saint Patrick’s College coached the Broncos.

Development officer Darren Burns said all the boys did a great job coaching the teams, a sentiment backed up by the parents of Manly.

The parents said it was a wonderfully organised, well-run season.

Both the parents and especially the players thought it was a really great idea having the year 12 footy boys as coaches of the young football teams.

Burns said the young players looked up to the older boys because of their football knowledge and the fact that they played for the Devils team.
