Man who assaulted Tinder date walks free

A MARRIED Cairns man who repeatedly tried to force himself on a woman he met online, after driving her to an isolated waterhole, has avoided time behind bars.

Joshua Luke Willett, 35, was going through a "period of relationship disharmony" with his wife early last year when he signed up to Tinder and matched with the then 32-year-old Hong Kong woman.

The pair chatted online for about a week in January last year and met up briefly before deciding to visit the Ross and Locke water hole at Goldsborough, south of Cairns.

While there, the Cairns District Court heard yesterday, Willett tried to pull her into the water, remove her clothes, lifted her into the back of his Toyota Prado where he touched her breast, told her he wanted to have sex with her, then put his hand down her underwear.

Crown prosecutor Miles Dickson said the woman had rejected all his advances and it was only when she fell from the car and grabbed a nearby rock, saying "don't force me to hurt you", that he complied.
