UPDATE, 4PM: The man has been removed from the accident site and taken for emergency treatment.

 

3.40PM: The Central Highlands Regional Council has released the following statement:

At about 1.30pm, the CEO of Central Highlands Regional Council was made aware of an accident involving a contractor on a council work site at Pilot Farm Rd in Emerald.

Emergency and medical services were rapidly deployed to the site. Workplace Health and Safety Queensland have been notified.

Our primary concern is the health and welfare of the contractors employee, who is currently being treated on site.

We will be cooperating fully with all relevant investigating authorities.

A further statement will be issued when more information is available.

 

A CareFlight helicopter has arrived at the scene, and it is believed surgeons are being flown from Rockhampton.

The contractor's condition is unknown.

 

1.29PM: A man is being treated by paramedics, while one man remains trapped, but stabilised. A backhoe is on the scene clearing excess dirt.

1.09PM: A doctor and nurse have arrived on the scene. It is believed there may be two people involved.

1PM: EMERGENCY services are currently working to rescue a man trapped in a trench on Pilot Farm Rd, Emerald.

The worker became trapped after a wall collapsed on him at the site.

It is believed the worker is conscious.
