Robber pulls out sawn-off shotgun

DETECTIVES are investigating an armed hold-up at a Coffs Harbour insurance brokerage, where the offender is said to have produced a sawn-off shotgun.

Police were called to the business on the corner of Harbour Drive and Glenreagh Street shortly before 5pm on Thursday.

Officers were told the man entered the office, just before closing time, and pointed the shortened firearm at a female employee demanding cash.

Police say the armed offender fled on foot with a small amount of cash.

Officers searched the Jetty, Park Beach and city centre areas but failed to locate the armed robber.

He was last seen running down Glenreagh Street past the TAFE College, and may have run through bushland backing onto Coffs Creek.

The offender is described as Caucasian in appearance, of thin build and about 180cm tall with short, light brown hair.

At the time he was wearing a black hooded Hurley brand jumper, denim jeans and light-coloured running shoes.

Residents, pedestrians or passing motorists who saw anyone matching that description and acting suspiciously between 4pm and 5.30pm should call Coffs Harbour detectives on 6652 0210.

Alternatively anonymous information in relation to the offender or crime can be supplied to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
