Man jailed for violent assault

A COFFS Harbour man has been sentenced to nine months in prison and ordered to undertake anger management over a drunken assault.

Shane Allan Hall, 31, has been found guilty of assault occasioning actual bodily harm in the Coffs Harbour Local Court.

It was proven Hall assaulted a woman outside a house on March 28. The court was told he arrived at the home at 6.15pm and began yelling and swearing at the occupants.

In fear of her safety, the woman said she retreated inside the residence after being verbally abused by Hall.

It was found he then began banging a screen door and, after the victim gave him a shove, pulled the door off its hinges and threw it on the ground.

The victim claimed Hall then grabbed her arm and began twisting it.

She fell to the ground to stop her arm being broken or dislocated, claiming he then lent on her with his weight.

It was said Hall also punched a timber door before the incident was later reported to police.

The sentencing magistrate ordered Hall to undertake counselling during his time in prison and to refrain from drinking alcohol.
