Man in court on teen murder charge

THE MAN accused of murdering Nambucca Heads teenager Caleb Jarrett faced court briefly yesterday.

Mitchell Anthony Winefield, 43, of Mann Street at Nambucca Heads, had his left hand bandaged and was wearing a collared shirt, trousers and no shoes when he was escorted to the Coffs Harbour Local Court dock from the police cells.

Legal Aid solicitor Rob Munro told the court there would be no application for bail yesterday.

Magistrate Judith Fleming formally refused bail and adjourned the case to Port Macquarie Local Court on April 8, when Winefield will appear on an audio visual link from prison.

Ms Fleming ordered a police brief of evidence to be served by March 31.

Police allege Mr Jarrett, 18, died from multiple stab wounds after an argument with Winefield became violent in Mann Street at Nambucca Heads.
