Crash victim fights for life

A YOUNG Dorrigo man is fighting for his life after a nasty car smash in the township early on Saturday.

Police said the 18-year-old was driving his Nissan Patrol ute east on Waterfall Way at 1am when it ran off the road near the Dorrigo Mountain Resort, shot up an embankment and overturned.

The man was unconscious at the scene and was taken in a serious condition to Dorrigo Hospital.

He was later taken to Coffs Harbour Health Campus and is now being treated in the intensive care unit of Newcastle’s John Hunter Hospital.

He has head injuries, a fractured spine and internal injuries.

His condition late yesterday was reported to be critical.
