A MAN, who bashed and robbed a woman outside a Toormina shopping centre has today pleaded guilty to the crime.

The female victim was set upon just after she loaded groceries into her vehicle outside Centro Toormina in February.

The man in question Tony Lee Danzey, 33, of Coffs Harbour threatened the woman with a screwdriver and demanded she hand over her keys and money.

When she refused the woman was pushed to the ground and assaulted.

In an interview with the Advocate, days after the attack, the 40-year-old victim said she feared for her life and recalled how Danzey grabbed at her purse.

Arrested by Coffs Harbour detectives in Urunga just over a week after the robbery, Danzey was charged with armed robbery with an offensive weapon.

Police allege he was also found in possession of drugs, believed to be amphetamines.

Remanded in custody since his arrest, Danzey has been committed for sentence in the Coffs Harbour District Court on Monday, September 17.

No application for bail was made in court yesterday.

A plea is yet to be entered for the drug charge.
