Man in court for punching and threatening his brother

A SIBLING dispute has landed a man in court, after he punched his brother in the head and threatened him with a knife.

Craig Steven Hamilton pleaded guilty in Hervey Bay Magistrates Court on Thursday to assault occasioning bodily harm.

The court heard the Scarness man attacked his brother believing he had smashed the screen of his phone on October 29.

Prosecutor Sonia Edwards said Hamilton struck the victim in the face with a closed fist.

Hamilton then held out a knife at his brother telling him "I'm going to stab you in the face".

"He threw the knife, it landed on the patio roof above the (brother's) head," Snr Const Sperling said.

When police later reached to the roof to grab the knife, they saw five marijuana plants on the roof.

Hamilton also pleaded to possession of drugs in his court appearance.

Defence lawyer Daniel Ould said the pair had many "disputes" and "physical altercations" over the years but "always made up afterwards".

Hamilton was given a three-month jail sentence, wholly suspended.

He was also fined $750.
