Man and child survive hwy crash

A MAN and a child had a trip to hospital after this nasty accident on the Pacific Highway north of Coffs Harbour on Saturday afternoon.

Police said the driver of the northbound ute somehow lost control and veered to the right across the southbound highway lanes at Moonee and slammed through wire safety cables.

The vehicle then careered through scrub and rolled heavily before landing upside down in a gully.

The man and child had to be removed by emergency crews and were treated for minor injuries at Coffs Harbour Health Campus. The highway was closed for a short time while a crane was used to lift the ute from its muddy resting place.

Police inquiries into the cause of the accident continue.
