Woman’s body found buried in backyard
A MAN has been charged with murder following the discovery of a woman's body in a backyard in Perth on Tuesday afternoon.
The woman is believed to be 32-year-old mother Fahima Yusuf, who was reported missing a day earlier. Her body was found after police dug up the rear garden of her Carlisle home following investigations.
A 36-year-old man, who police say is known to the victim, was charged with murder after the discovery.
Perth Now reports the suspect is Ms Yusuf's husband.
He has been refused bail and is due to appear in Perth Magistrates Court on Thursday.
The mother of two was reported missing to police on Tuesday, with her neighbours saying they last saw her during the early hours of last Friday.
The police investigation into the 32-year-old's whereabouts turned into a suspected homicide after suspicious circumstances led detectives to undertake an extensive forensic search of the property.
It is understood that a crime scene was established on Tuesday night after police carried out a welfare check at the Weston Street home after Ms Yusuf was reported missing.
A short time later, homicide detectives were called in.
Drone footage suggests forensic officers have excavated three sections of the couple's backyard.
Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Ms Yusuf's death and have asked anyone who may have information to call Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000 or report the information online at www.crimestopperswa.com.au.
