Man charged over house fire
POLICE have charged a man over a blaze in Coffs Harbour's Thompsons Road on Saturday night.
Police said the 37-year-old former tenant gained entry to the house, where he allegedly drank alcohol and smoked cannabis.
It is alleged the man poured petrol throughout the house and lit a fire in the loungeroom at 8pm.
Neighbours raised the alarm when they saw the flames.
Police and firefighters dashed to the scene, where the man was treated for superficial burns and smoke inhalation.
The fire damaged the loungeroom, a bedroom and the kitchen. Police arrested the man and took him to Coffs Harbour Police Station, where he was charged with damaging property by fire, prohibited drug possession, and three counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm stemming from a domestic dispute on October 18.
• POLICE detained two men for being intoxicated in Coffs Harbour on Thursday afternoon.
They were called to Coff Street at about 4.45pm and arrested a Corindi Beach man, 41.
They returned 30 minutes later to nearby Rotary Park, where they arrested a Coffs Harbour man, 49, after a fight broke out.
