Man charged over alleged stabbing in Toormina
TWO people are in hospital after being stabbed multiple times outside a home in Toormina.
At about 5.30am this morning, a 25-year-old Mackay man allegedly attacked a man and woman following a verbal altercation in McFadyn St.
The alleged offender - who is known to the victims - had been walking down the street with friends when the altercation escalated and he allegedly produced a knife.
During the fight, a 26-year-old Coffs Harbour man suffered six stab wounds to his torso, arms and buttocks.
The 37-year-old Coffs Harbour woman had attempted to stop the fight when she was stabbed to her elbow and leg.
The 26-year-old man was taken to Coffs Harbour Health Campus and was flown to Newcastle's John Hunter Hospital at 1pm today where he remains in a serious condition.
The 37-year-old woman was admitted to Coffs Harbour Health Campus in a stable condition.
The Mackay man was arrested in Durie Cl, Toormina, at about 8am and was charged with two counts of wounding with intent.
He has been bail refused to appear before Coffs Harbour Local Court tomorrow.
Coffs-Clarence Crime Manager Detective Inspector Darren Jameson said an investigation into the incident was continuing.
