Man allegedly bashed two sisters during a night out

A MAN has been charged with bashing two women in the Coffs Harbour city centre, as they enjoyed a night out at the weekend. 

Police allege the Coffs Harbour man, 20, set upon the sisters, a Coffs Harbour woman, 25, and a Boambee East woman, 20, behind a Grafton St hotel around midnight on Sunday. 

Police allege the 25-year-old suffered cuts and swelling to her lips, while the 20-year-old woman was treated for a broken wrist at the Coffs Harbour Hospital.

It is understood the man was known to one of the women.  

The 20-year-old man was arrested by police on Sunday at 4pm and has been charged with seven offences:

Use carriage service to menace/harass/offend
Stalk/Intimidate intend fear physical harm - three counts
Armed with intent commit indictable offence
Assault occasioning actual bodily harm - two counts 

He was charged and appeared in Coffs Harbour Local Court yesterday, where he was bail refused to September 2.

"Domestic violence remains a significant problem within the community," Coffs Clarence Crime Manager Detective Inspector Darren Jameson said. 

"The police will stand side-by-side with victims of domestic abuse and violence, and wont tolerate these types of cowardly assaults."
