Man charged with child's murder

A MAN will appear in Coffs Harbour Local Court today charged with the murder of a toddler.  

Police Homicide Squad detectives have charged the man with the murder of a two-year-old girl who was admitted to Coffs Harbour Base Hospital suffering severe head injuries on Wednesday, March 30.

She was airlifted to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead, where she died two days later (Friday 1 April 2011).

A post mortem examination revealed the toddler had suffered significant head trauma, including a fractured skull.

Detectives from State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad formed Strike Force Embley to investigate the circumstances surrounding her death.

About 2pm yesterday, a 44-year-old man was arrested by police at a Coffs Harbour residence.

The man was taken to Coffs Harbour Police Station and charged with murder.

He was refused bail to appear before a Magistrate today.
