Man caught in rip at Diggers Beach

A MAN had a close call when he encountered trouble in the surf at Diggers Beach today.

Police and paramedics were dispatched to the scene at 1.20pm following reports the man had been pulled from the surf at the northern end of the beach and was not moving.

Bystanders were first alerted to the man’s plight when they saw him signal for help. It is understood he had become caught in a fierce rip.

An ambulance spokeswoman said paramedics arrived at the beach to find the man was okay and he did not require treatment or transport to hospital.

Well-established signs are in place at the beach warning of the dangerous current, advising against swimming and that the beach is not patrolled.
