POLICE are appealing for information from the public in relation to an alleged home invasion at Sandy Beach over the weekend.

The incident happened in Blackbutt Ave between midnight on Saturday and 2.30am yesterday.

Police said the 49-year-old occupant of the home was assaulted by a group of up to six men.

The man told police he answered his door and was set upon by the gang.

He was knocked to the ground and assaulted, suffering lacerations to his head.

The offenders ransacked the home and stole a quantity of cash.

A crime scene was yesterday established around the home, which is in a quiet suburban street.

Detectives are investigating the motive of the offenders and have interviewed residents in the street, who reported seeing and hearing a vehicle speed down the street.

Anyone who saw the group acting suspiciously in the area, or who may have information relating to the crime, should contact Coffs Harbour Detectives via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
