Man arrested on The Sunlander after complaint from passenger

A 50-YEAR-OLD Rockhampton man is due to appear in the Mackay Magistrates Court this afternoon following investigations into the alleged sexual assault of a 27-year-old Townsville woman on a train this morning.

Police were called to the Mackay railway station at 2.15am. The train was delayed until around 5am whilst police conducted their investigations.

EARLIER:

POLICE have arrested a man in Mackay on The Sunlander train after a female passenger aged in her twenties complained about his behaviour.

There have been reports of a sexual assault but police would not confirm the nature of the woman's complaints.

Police boarded the train in Mackay at 2.15 this morning.

The man, believed to be aged in his fifties, is now in custody and is aiding police with their inquiries.

The man is expected to appear in Mackay Magistrate's court later today.
