Mama Mia, it's Jack

IN 2008 the most popular baby boy name was Jack and Mia was the most popular girls name in New South Wales; 665 baby boys were named Jack, which is also one of the earliest recorded names in NSW. 548 baby girls were named Mia.

The NSW Government began collecting data on births in 1788, and every birth in NSW is registered with the NSW Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages.

The total number of births in NSW for 2008 isn't released yet, although according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, Australia's total fertility rate (TFR) in 2007 was 1.93 babies per woman, the highest since 1981 (1.94 babies per woman). The increase in the TFR between 2006 and 2007 was largely due to births to women aged 25 to 34 years.
