Mal Brough in media spotlight over Peter Slipper scandal

CURRENT Affairs program 60 Minutes has again cast the spotlight on Member for Fisher, Mal Brough and the Australian Federal Police investigation into his involvement in the Peter Slipper scandal.

The popular program highlighted what appeared in last week's Sunshine Coast Daily, that the AFP investigation was continuing a year on a complaint was received.

Presenter Liz Hayes said the program had been approached for copies of its tapes in which Mr Brough admitted on national television he had asked Mr Slipper's former staffers to copy his diary.

Mr Brough is being investigated under Section 70 of the Crimes Act, which deals with the disclosure of information by Commonwealth officers.

It carries a maximum two-year prison sentence.

Newly elected Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull did not respond to questions from 60 Minutes as to whether he knew of the AFP investigation before promoting him to the ministry as Special Minster of State.

But Mr Turnbull's office would have been aware of the allegations before Mr Brough's appointment as the Daily contacted the office looking for answers on Wednesday, September 16, three days before Mr Turnbull announced his new front bench.

Mr Turnbull's office did not respond.

The Daily is seeking comment from Mr Brough this morning on the 60 Minutes interview
