Bushman's Bread goes back to basics with bakery
MARLENE McGuire has reinvented the way her business makes bread.
The long-standing business owner and her partners are going back to the basics and reopening a bakery they closed more than a decade ago.
"The world's changing," she said.
"You either change or fall off, don't you?
"We're reinventing ourselves again."
The Bushman's Bread Bakery will soon sell produce locally through its shopfront as well as maintaining its distribution networks.
For the past 12 years, the wholesale company sold baked goods to selected outlets, which co-owner Marlene McGuire said would often run out or not be available.
"We do get a lot of people say 'we want your pies, where can we get them?" she said.
This was an option Ms McGuire said would soon be available to those who loved fresh local produce.
Ms McGuire said they had restructured and reinvented the way Bushman's delivered its goods, after closing the front-house bakery more than a decade ago.
Since then, the Bushman's Bread Bakery has tripled in size and Ms McGuire said her team was determined to get back on top.
"People like the convenience… they like to come in and say can I have a Bushman's pie and they know they're going to get one," she said.
From 6am, June 1, members of the community are invited to join in on the fun at the launch of North Mackay's latest local produce bakery.
The bakery is on Evans Ave in North Mackay.
