Make-or-break time for rivals
MISSING out on securing all three points in Tuesday night’s catch-up game means both Sawtell and Coffs Coast Tigers face must-win matches this weekend if they’re to remain a chance of sneaking into North Coast Football’s top four.
The 2-all draw gave both sides a valuable point but it also meant the large gap behind fourth-placed Orara Valley remains.
Time is running out for the pair to close the gap so wins against teams currently sitting in the top four would be a godsend.
Sawtell hosts second-placed Urunga this evening while the Coffs Coast Tigers play tomorrow at Ayrshire Park against a Boambee outfit proud of having an unbeaten record on home soil in 2011.
Northern Storm is expected to put the final nail in Maclean’s coffin tomorrow while Coffs United and Orara Valley are expected to be too strong this afternoon for Woolgoolga and Westlawn respectively.
In the top flight women’s competition, the local derby between Woolgoolga and Corindi Red-Rock is clearly the match of the day.
A string of recent wins has seen the Breakers race back into finals contention but playing against the competition-leading Woolgoolga is a greater challenge than one Corindi has faced lately.
Boambee currently sits in fourth place ahead of Corindi-Red Rock.
The Eagles face a tricky fixture themselves today when they make the long trek north to play Maclean.
The Bobcats have found some form in the past month with a couple of wins as well as pushing last year’s grand finalists to the limit.
