POLICE believe they have landed a major blow on a Lismore-based drug supply syndicate and expect more arrests after arresting two men and seizing $260,000 worth of cocaine, ice and cannabis.

On Tuesday police stopped a vehicle on the Pacific Highway at Cudgera Creek in which they located almost half a kilogram of cocaine, 42 grams of crystal methamphetamine (ice) and more than $9000 in cash thought to be the proceeds of crime.

A 35-year-old Caniaba man and a 28-year-old Robina man were arrested and taken to Tweed Heads Police Station where they were interviewed and charged with drug-related offences including supplying a commercial quantity of a prohibited drug.

Both were refused bail and appeared at Tweed Heads Local Court yesterday.

Investigators also executed a search warrant at a Caniaba property where they located and seized a further quantity of drugs including 15.5 grams of crystal methamphetamine, 475 grams of cannabis, 2.7 grams of cannabis resin, 13 oxycontin tablets (a morphine-like prescription pharmaceutical) and 74 cannabis plants.

Richmond Local Area Command crime manager, Inspector Greg Moore said the sting was the latest in a series of drug-related operations being run from the command.

“Detectives attached to the command’s dedicated drug unit commenced Operation Spice earlier this year investigating the supply of crystal methamphetamine or ‘ice’ and cocaine in the Northern Rivers region,” he said.

“We can’t disclose the details of an ongoing investigation but I can say it has been a protracted operation targeting the supply of illicit drugs including crystal methamphetamine or ‘ice’ and cocaine in the district.

“It is a significant seizure and we estimate the quantity of drugs seized from both the vehicle and the search warrant would exceed a quarter of a million dollars at street-level value.

“We anticipate further arrests as a result of this and other related operations.”
