The 7.1 Mwp earthquake shook the small Pacific nation at about 5:30am (Sydney time).
There have been several weaker aftershock in the hours following the initial earthquake.
There has been no tsunami warning issues for the Australian east cost because of the earthquake in Solomon Islands.
The latest shake in the Pacific Ocean comes less than 24 hours after a magnitude three earthquake north of Hayman Island.
