Mad Cycologists ride into the record books
THE MAD Cycologists might not have the most enticing name but that hasn't stopped hundreds of people registering for their annual Bundaberg City to Coast Community Bike Ride Sunday.
In its 10th year, the 20km ride that runs from Quay St to the North Head Parklands at Burnett Heads has grown to the biggest community-based event in Queensland.
Mad Cycologist Roy Sutherland-Fraser said the ride provided plenty of benefits, both on and off the bike.
"One of our major aims in conducting this event is to also promote safer cycling and to encourage people to ride their bicycles both socially and for commuting whilst at the same time improving their fitness and well-being," Sutherland-Fraser said.
"Additional benefits are to increase the awareness and benefits of social cycling and consequent health improvement for all those who participate whilst at the same time we aim to promote cycling as a low cost, environmentally friendly form of transport."
On the 20km journey there is two rest stops and the route is manned by course marshals; police patrolled and medical assistance, if needed, is provided through the St John's Ambulance.
