Mad cows and politics

COWPER MP Luke Hartsuyker has called on the Government to debate mad cow disease in the House of Representatives, after the Senate passed the Coalition’s Food Importation Bill.

“The Government should allow it to be debated in the House,” Mr Hartsuyker said.

“Given the government intended to allow beef to be imported from countries which had been affected by mad cow disease, it is incumbent on the government to explain why they won’t support this bill.

“If this bill was debated, then the Government could be up front with Australian beef producers and honest with Australian consumers.”
