Mackay woman gets crafty with Zoom
TO BREAK the boredom of isolation, a West Mackay woman has come up with a crafty way for friends to bond and learn a new skill.
Fiona Flohr is taking her business, Earth Design by Fi, online and will be offering craft classes to small groups of people, individuals and families using the online platform Zoom.
With pot hangers, wall hangings, beginners' macramé, raffia, macramé feathers and more, Ms Flohr said there were plenty of options for all ages and interest levels.
"I've decided to break the classes down into more manageable 30-minute to one-hour lessons, and if people are enjoying it there would be space for the full three-hour workshop," she said.
Ms Flohr has had plenty of experience working with fibre arts and hopes to be able to bring some of that enthusiasm and passion to people in Mackay.
"I originally started craft with a group when I lived in remote Queensland, and from there my passion just grew," she said.
Even if people were not talented in drawing or traditional forms of art, Ms Flohr said, there was something for everyone in her classes.
"A lot of people will say 'I am not arty, or I cannot draw' and I'll say 'Goodie because we are not drawing. This is all about being creative'," she said.
"When you're holding fibres and colours and different lengths, it is a very different thing and people get to the end of a workshop and say 'I could do that again' and sometimes even have an interest in expanding on that."
The classes will be offered in closed groups on Zoom. To get started interested people can phone Ms Flohr on 0439 736 425 or message on her Facebook page Earth Designs by Fi.
Ms Flohr has ready-made packs for people to purchase, ranging from the small macramé pot hanger kit for $25 to larger creations for $65 and above.
All kits use high-quality material and are available to be picked up with social distancing measures in place.
