A MACKAY woman is facing serious allegations of child neglect.

The case was mentioned for the first time in Mackay Magistrates Court today.

The woman, aged in her early 30s, is charged with one count of neglect causing harm.

It is alleged the offending, against a child, occurred in the Mackay region on June 14.

The woman, who is out on bail, cannot be named for legal reasons.

Under the Queensland Criminal Code, the charge relates to "any person who unlawfully does any act, or omits to do any act which it is the person's duty to do, by which act or omission bodily harm is actually caused to any person".

If convicted the woman would be guilty of a misdemeanour and liable to up to two years jail.

The matter was adjourned to later this month for mention.
