Lucky escape for teenager

A TEENAGER has had a close encounter with a man who tried to rob her in Coffs Harbour.

Police said the 16-year-old had just stepped off a bus on the Pacific Highway near the Red and White Medical Centre and walked to the Bray Street complex at 10am yesterday.

All the while she was being followed by a man who eventually approached her near the former Topolinos building.

The man stood in front of the girl and asked her for money before he tried to reach into her carrybag which she had on her shoulder.

The girl managed to struggle free and she ran away and raised the alarm.

The offender is described as Aboriginal in appearance, aged 30 to 40, with curly brown hair, about 140cm tall, with a medium build, and wearing a red shirt, blue jeans and no shoes.

The teenager told police the man had a mark on the left side of his face and possibly a tattoo on the inside of his left wrist.

If you saw the man or if you have any other information about this brazen attempt, you

are urged to contact Coffs Harbour Police Station on 6652 0299 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

All information will be treated confidentially.
