Low has surfers on a high

A LOW pressure system thousands of kilometres away brought a smile to the faces of surfers across the Sunshine Coast yesterday.

The Tasman Sea low has all but disappeared but its effects were being felt on Coast beaches yesterday as a glassy swell up to 1.5 metres rolled in. “It was one of those rare days – quite special,” Daily surfing expert Robbie Sherwell said last night.

“It took days for the waves to get here but it was worth the wait.

“They were nice and clean but the bad news is that they’ll be short-lived and we’ll be lucky if it’s half as good tomorrow.”

Robbie said point breaks such as Alexandra Headland and the river mouths were in fine form while Peregian and Currimundi were the pick of the beach breaks.

The same spots would be worth trying again today, he said.

“It won’t last long but there will still be some fun waves.”
