Love poems to a natural world

AUTHOR Brian Hawkins will launch his new book, Darkwood Poems, at the Bella Bookafé in Bellingen's Church Street, Bellingen, tomorrow at 11am.

“It should be a joyful occasion,” Brian said.

“There will be entertainment, maybe a bit of music, Marti Guy's wonderful vegetarian food, and poetry.”

The book, published by local press Topknot Books, takes its name from Darkwood Road, where Brian was living when he wrote most of the poems.

“Darkwood Poems is a sort of love letter to the natural world,” he said. “The poems chronicle the events of a year, starting in late February with a big flood, and focus on what's happening in the bush, what's going on with the birds and the river and the trees. There's the odd purely lyrical piece, too.”
