Long search for alleged criminal ended in Casino

POLICE apprehended a man in his 20s last night following a dramatic vehicle and on-foot pursuit through Casino.

Police had been searching for the man, who had an outstanding arrest, for some time.

He was sighted in a vehicle at 10.15pm, he refused to stop for police and a pursuit was called.

According to the Richmond LAC - NSW Police Force Facebook page, "there were a number of pursuits through the town with different police cars involved".

Lismore police Chief Inspector Nicole Bruce said the pursuit continued until the car stalled.

"He drove recklessly and eventually it appeared the car stalled and he ran off on foot," she said.

The Richmond LAC Facebook post said the man was chased by a "super sprinter".

"Fences were jumped, dogs were leaped over and the man was cornered in a carport," it said.

"Police allege he approached the female officer in an aggressive manner so she used her capsicum spray to prevent a violent altercation."

The man was arrested, handcuffed, and taken to Casino Police Station where he was charged with seven offences, as well as the outstanding arrest warrant.

The offences were, as listed on the Facebook page:

Take & drive conveyance without consent of owner, second + offence

Drive motor vehicle during disqualification period, second + offence

Police pursuit - not stop - drive dangerously - second + offence

Resist officer in execution of duty

Possession of equipment for administering prohibited drugs

Two counts of trespass.

He was refused bail to attend Lismore Local Court this morning.
