LOVE is in the air for Miranda Tapsell in the new season of Love Child.

The retro drama, set in 1970 Sydney, follows the lives, loves and losses of the staff of a Kings Cross hospital and nearby home for teenage mothers.

Filming began on the third season of Love Child shortly after Tapsell won two Logies, including the Graham Kennedy Award for Most Outstanding New Talent, for her portrayal of young mum Martha Tennant.

More screen time will be devoted to Martha's burgeoning relationship with trainee doctor Simon Bowditch, played by Andrew Ryan.

"We left season two with Martha and Bowditch finally sharing their first kiss and deciding that yes they're going to be boyfriend and girlfriend after all that will they won't they," Tapsell tells The Guide.

"It's been so lovely hearing the audience's response about how endearing they find the two of them.

"Everyone loves a good love story and everyone loves to see someone do whatever they can to be with that person. I'm a big fan of those kinds of stories, and to be a part of a really beautiful love story is really special."

But there are still plenty of hurdles for the young love birds to overcome.

"Season two touched lightly on the idea that people might not approve of the fact that they come from different backgrounds," Tapsell says.

"What's going to be so great about this season is Martha and Bowditch have to find out what this relationship really means to them and what they're willing to fight for.

"I can't wait for you guys to see where the relationship is going to end up."

Tapsell has formed a close bond with Ryan, despite the two actors barracking for opposing sides in State of Origin.

"I was going for NSW last year and obviously Queensland absolutely flogged them, so I had to wear the Queensland jersey," she laughs.

Jessica Marais's character Joan isn't in such a happy place when the show returns. With her partner Jim behind bars, she's forced to care for their adopted son while holding down her job as a doctor and living in the residents' quarters.

Jeremy Lindsay Taylor also joins the cast as the new owner of The Blue Moon club.

Season three of Love Child premieres tomorrow at 8.30pm on Channel 9.
