Railway lockout angers commuters
ANGRY train commuters in Coffs Harbour have raised questions over Country Link staffing rosters after passengers were locked out of the railway station on Wednesday morning.
A large crowd of people had to cart luggage up the southern stairwell and onto the platform to catch the early morning train, instead of checking through the luggage room.
Irate former railway worker Greg Purcell said the train’s conductor told him no one was available on the morning to open the station.
Other passengers said the train came and went by 8am and still the station had not opened.
“This is just not acceptable locking the public out of their train station,” Mr Purcell said.
“There were elderly people, young mothers and children waiting to use the amenities at the station and the waiting room.”
“I just wonder if it comes down to cost cutting,” he said.
State Rail’s media unit was unable to provide the Coffs Coast Advocate with an explanation yesterday.
