Local tennis coach meets idol
Coffs Coast tennis coach Danny Sousa was handed the opportunity of a lifetime meeting his coaching idol Jofre Porta.
Sousa was on hand at a coaching clinic run by Porta in Sydney learning the skills and techniques which helped developed Spanish tennis greats Carlos Moya and Rafael Nadal.
"He (Porta) is one of the best coaches I know and was very willing to share his ideas," Sousa said.
"His methods are so good that I was able to get my players hitting the ball with their eyes closed.
"Jofre is more than a coach. He is somewhere between a philosopher and a mad scientist in that he is not scared to try new things to get the most from his players."
Sousa hopes to travel to spain to work with Porta and Rafael Nadal's current assistant coach Francis Roig.
Local player Gracie Hemer is set to join Sousa on the tour in September.
