Local pharmacy assistant set to represent NSW
LISA Ryan, from Jetty Village Amcal Pharmacy, has been chosen to represent New South Wales at the National Finals of the 2015 Pharmacy Assistant of the Year Award.
The Pharmacy Guild of Australia/GuildSuper Pharmacy Assistant of the Year Award is the premier award for pharmacy assistants in Australia, with more than 450 nominees recognised this year.
Judge, Nicole Floyd from The Pharmacy Guild of Australia, said every day pharmacy assistants help their local community to find health solutions and make good decisions about their health.
"Many people don't realise when they walk into a pharmacy, the first person to greet them is not only friendly and approachable, but also professionally trained to assist with a range of queries," she said.
"This award was created to recognise pharmacy assistants who take the extra step in their career and go that extra mile to help their customers."
Judges picked Lisa from 19 other finalists at a recent state workshop, where each participant had the chance to demonstrate their pharmacy knowledge and display their skills in customer service and leadership.
Lisa was delighted to be selected as the New South Wales finalist last Friday.
"To be nominated, and then to become the New South Wales winner is a huge honour, given the high standard of the other candidates," Lisa said.
"I am so proud to work in community pharmacy in a role that I thoroughly enjoy, alongside a fantastic team.
"I am excited to represent New South Wales and look forward to meeting the winners from the other states."
Fellow judge, Maria Martignoni from sponsor, GuildSuper, said the judging this year was tough, due to the extremely high standard of all participants.
"Each candidate displayed a strong commitment to their work and the industry, which was a pleasure to see - it was a hard task to pick just one, but Lisa really shone," Maria said.
Lisa will represent the state at the national finals to be held at the Pharmacy Assistant National Conference on October 16 at the Gold Coast.
The national winner takes home $10,000 in prizes.
