Local Horsewoman returns from training with a champion

Local horse trainer and coach Tanja Kraus of Tanja Kraus Horsemanship has returned from spending the week with Australian Champion Ken Faulkner. Ken won the renowned ‘The Way of the Horse’ competition at Equitana in Melbourne - the competition pits 3 well known horsemen against each other in a race against the clock to start 3 untouched horses.

Tanja travelled to Esk in the Brisbane Valley to attend Kens recent Colt Starting Course - and was 1 of only 4 accepted to participate. Tanja ‘starts’ (breaks in) horses for the local community, and wanted to learn more from the horsemanship master. “They say that a horses first ride is his most important, and I wanted to learn from one of the worlds best” Tanja says.

She made the 7 hour journey with her young stock horse filly ‘dolly’ who did not disappoint. “The great thing about the course is we all had horses with different personalities - so we all learnt lots from each other. Dolly was just so soft and sweet, but we had to find her ‘go’ button early”. Tanja has a number of clinics coming up in the Coffs Harbour area, for more information find her on facebook.
