Local developers hear about social housing
BUILDERS, developers and investors flocked to a Housing NSW briefing held in Coffs Harbour yesterday.
An estimated 300 people attended the meeting at the Coffs Ex-Services Club to hear a presentation on new land and multi-unit development packages available for social housing.
Several local developers have already applied to build projects under the new public and community housing stimulus funding and more are expected to apply by the cut-off for tenders on April 9.
It is understood their plans include both unit developments and cottages.
Under the Commonwealth government's Nation Building and Jobs Plans, NSW has about $1.9 billion to spend on public and community housing, which is expected to fund up to 6000 homes by June 2012.
Combined with the State Government's own social housing program of about $350 million and 1500 new dwellings annually, the total is expected to be about 9000 new dwellings in total in the next three years for public and community housing tenants.
The powerpoint presentation shown at yesterday's briefing is due to be put up on the Housing NSW website today.
