Live wires brought down as car hits pole on Hogbin Drive

A YOUNG driver and his passengers had a narrow brush with death or serious injury after the vehicle they were travelling in hit a power pole on Hogbin Drive.

The incident happened about 11pm on Saturday and it's believed to be the fourth time in as many months that a vehicle has tangled with this particular pole, situated close to the entry to Coffs Harbour Airport.

The impact brought down power lines and the live wires landed centimetres from the vehicle, creating a danger for the occupants, police and Essential Energy emergency workers.

A woman, believed to be the mother of one of the youths was quickly at the scene but no significant injuries have been reported.

Witnesses say all four tyres were deflated and one ripped from the front of the vehicle with the live wires created an enormous hazard until the situation was brought under control.

People with information about this incident are asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
