Little Tern to step into limelight for art gallery show

THE National Parks and Wildlife Service will provide a guided tour of Little Tern nestings at Bongil Bongil National Park tomorrow.

The free tour is a lead-up event to an art exhibition at the Sawtell Art Gallery to raise awareness about the Little Tern and inspire local artists applying to participate in the exhibit.

Led by NPWS ranger, Martin Smith, the tour will educate the public about the birds and their conservation.

"It's imperative the community knows about the significant breeding grounds of this endangered species so together we can protect their environment and keep the area free of human threats," Martin said.

Jo Elliot, Emma Aspden and Christiana Ferreira are organising the exhibition to raise awareness about the species.

"The aim of the exhibit is to celebrate and conserve, we want to make sure they keep coming back," she said.

The Little Tern exhibition will run from November 7-22 at the Sawtell Art Gallery.
