THE Little Larder has grown from a fledging fruit and vegetable shop to a thriving grocery store, stocking more than 300 organic products.
And after eight years, it is still the only organic grocery store based in Coffs Harbour.
Run by Aimee and Shaun Wilson – with the ‘assistance’ of children, Bray and Rylee – the store also stocks foods for those with special dietary needs.
“Our aim is to supply our customers with only certified organic products – although we also stock some products which are gluten free, wheat free, chemical free, GMO free, preservative free and dairy free,” Aimee said.
“Organic does not just mean free from positive chemical test results, it refers to how our food is grown and handled.”
Certified organic or biodynamic products are produced using land management practices where artificial fertilisers, pesticides, herbicides, growth regulators, antibiotics, hormone stimulants or intensive livestock systems are not used.
“Animals raised using organic methods are not only treated humanely but also with respect,” she said.
And can you taste the difference in organic fruit, vegetable and meat products? According to Aimee, you most definitely can.
“It’s good, even the kids eat it.”
Before taking on The Little Larder, the Coffs locals had been in retail for seven years and were looking for ‘something different’ within the Coffs Coast area.
“We saw the organic industry was growing and believed that the Little Larder was a great opportunity for our family. We love it. It’s perfect for us and it makes us happy to be able to supply all these organic products to our customers.”
By ‘all’, Aimee means all. At The Little Larder you can not only pick up fruit and vegetables but also meat, oil, chocolate, nuts, seeds and cleaning products.
Bulk products are also available as well as free home deliveries to any where on the Coffs Coast.
