Lismore Heights puts on fiesta fun for bowlers

ABOUT 26 teams turned out for the annual Fiesta Fours at the Lismore Heights Bowling Club.

The popular women’s event has been running for a number of years with most clubs in the district represented yesterday.

“I think there is only about three clubs who aren’t here,” club official Cathy Clapham said.

“It’s a lot of fun. You won’t hear any of them out there growling at each other.

“It does get competitive as the day goes on but everyone has a smile on their face.

“You’ve got Bernadette De Re, Denise Wallace, Judy Scotcher, Greta Orchard – there is a lot of good teams out there.

“Some of the ones that do well often compete together in teams regularly.

“The spread of the prizemoney is always good and you’re likely to go home with something.”

There were two games played with winners decided on overall margins at the end of play.

The Lismore Heights club will also host the Fiesta Triples in September which attracts teams from outside the district.

“The heat knocks a few of them around so you might get some that won’t compete in the triples,” Clapham said.

“Club championships are finished by September so we tend to get a lot more from the Tweed-Byron district.

“It’s a busy time of year at the moment and most of the ladies try to compete as much as they can.”

Competition continues on Thursday when Alstonville hosts the Northern Rivers district level of the State Pairs Championship.

Winners of the Fiesta Fours will be in The Northern Star tomorrow.
