Library's a fun place to book in

BELLINGEN Shire Libraries are doing their bit for school holiday fun.

From this week until February 2009 they are hosting Get in the Game@Your Library, a Summer Reading Club aimed at children aged five and above.

The club encourages reading for pleasure, dispels the myth that libraries are boring places where reading is only ever done alone and generally supports children with reading fluency, building their vocabulary and comprehension.

Fun activities planned include a board game day, a 'share your Gameboy' day and competitions for the most creative book review and most creative book illustration (for a number of age groups).

Children can also test their research and comprehension skills by getting involved in Encyclopedia Britannica's competition requiring kids to use the encyclopedia to correctly answer a series of questions - winners will go into a draw for an Apple iPod. Children registering for the program keep a reading log throughout the summer and there are rewards for anyone reading more than 10 books.

To register simply visit your local library at Bellingen, Dorrigo or Urunga and ask staff for help.
