Letter to the Editor - Wednesday, October 29: Shame on you

ON SUNDAY night, October 19, I attended C.ex Coffs with my partner, her grandparents and my father. Coffs Harbour was hosting the Local Government Conference, and many delegates were present in the club on the night.

At 6pm no matter what state in Australia you are in, it is time to pay respect to our fallen soldiers and pay respect to the people within our country still serving, and when you enter into an RSL club it is a must that some respect is shown at 6pm.

Did this happen in at the C.ex club in Coffs on Sunday night? Yes, by all members and guests in the club. But it was too much to ask from the delegates that where in the club from local government.

How disgraceful that a function was being held for our local government and all the delegates could think about was themself and the drink in their hands. None of them stopped their "important" conversations to pay respect for one minute. What a disgrace.

There were two groups of delegates sitting right next to me but they could not even get off the seats to stand, they just continued their conversations, until one very elderly man yelled out across the room "stand up and don't be so rude".

Young kids under 10 years old could stand there and show respect, but our so-called local government delegates could not.
