Letter to the Editor - Wednesday, May 6: Delayed outcome

I READ with interest the comments made by Rose Gow, (Advocate, Saturday, May 2) particularly regarding the 10-year delay in carrying out the execution of the Bali Nine drug smugglers.   Yes the 10 years taken to carry out the punishment is excessive, but the delay was largely caused by the continual appeals by the defence teams.   Even as the execution date approached, further appeals were lodged.   This could have gone on forever had the Indonesians not taken some decisive action.   What must be remembered is these two people were convicted criminals and, as such, should not be treated as some sort of heroes or martyrs.   Ray Pensch
